X-keys PS/2 Recorder Application

Copy Programming from One PS/2 X-keys to Another

With our X-keys PS/2Recorder application and our PS/2 Host Emulator you can:
  • Read programming from your PS/2 X-keys to a data file
  • Save, edit, or copy the file
  • Write the file (programming) to a PS/2 X-keys
  • Edit macros at the keystroke level in the file
  • Convert the file for use with USB X-keys
  • Protect programming on the X-keys

While the PS/2 X-keys are incredibly simple to program, we frequently get requests for the capability of reproducing multiple units with identical programming. Copying one or two units from a master is easily accomplished by connecting the “recording” X-keys downstream from the master (click here for a detailed explanation). Programming a large number of units, or implementing changes across a group of X-keys was more difficult, until now. Our PS/2 Host Emulator allows two way communication between the computer and the PS/2 X-keys to “read” the programming data from the X-keys’ non-volatile memory. This data file can then be saved, edited, or copied to another X-keys.

How to Use X-keys PS/2 Recorder

Reading Programming Data from an X-keys

  1. Install the P.I. Engineering PS/2 Host Emulator on a working USB port.
  2. Download and install X-keys PS/2 Recorder.
  3. Launch X-keys PS/2 Recorder.
  4. Plug the X-keys you want to copy into the PS/2 Host Emulator on the port labeled “Device 2.”
  5. “Read” the programming data from the X-keys by clicking the“Read” icon, or by selecting “Read Device Data” from the File menu.
  6. If all goes well, you will receive a “Read Successful” message in the message line.
  7. Save the data file by clicking the toolbar icon or selecting “Save” from the File Menu.

Writing a Data File to an X-keys

  1. Plug the X-keys in to the PS/2 Host Emulator on the port labeled “Device 2.”
  2. In X-keys PS/2 Recorder, open the data file.
  3. Click the “Write” icon or select “Write to Device” from the File Menu.
  4. If all goes well, you will receive a “Write Successful” message in the message line.

Editing a Programming Data File

Reading an X-keys or opening a data file from the File Menu will load the data into PS/2 Recorder. On the interface, right-clicking any key will open a programming menu. Selecting “Create/Edit Macro” will display keystrokes programmed for that specific key. Any changes you make will be saved when you click the OK button. Writing the edited file to the X-keys will transfer your changes to its internal memory.

Duplicating a Single X-keys PS/2 Device

Simply plugging the X-keys in between your master X-keys and the PS/2 port provides a quick, easy way to copy the programmed keys. Throw the Programming Switch up on the Recording X-keys, tap the key to record, tap the same key on the Master X-keys, tap the same key on the Recording X-keys and repeat until all keys have been copied.

This will transfer all keystrokes. If you use any Special Features like a pause or a separate press and release command, these will have to be reprogrammed on the Recording X-keys to take effect.
